People ask about the name, so here is the plain answer. At the old corner fountain, “a coke” was what you asked for when you wanted a cold glass and a place to sit. The word was as much about the stool as the drink. You came in tired and hot, you sat down next to whoever was there, and for a few minutes nobody needed anything from you.
That is a picture of something much older than any soda counter. Jesus sat down beside a well, tired from the road, and started a conversation about thirst. He was not talking about what was in her jar.
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.John 4:14
So the name is a small, friendly way of saying what this place is for. Jesus is the water. The counter is where we sit together while we drink.
What this site is
This is a blog and a set of forums. The blog is short reading you can finish before your coffee cools. The forums are a place to ask for prayer, talk through a passage or say that this week was hard.
It is not a church, and it does not try to be one. If you have a church, we hope you love it. If you do not have one, we hope you will find one. In the meantime, there is a seat here.
What it is not
We use the word “coke” in its old soda-fountain sense only. This site has no connection with any beverage company, and we are not selling you anything.
Pull up a stool. You are welcome here.
